The warm, bright colors and bold patterns make this woven basket great for decor, storage, or use on-the-go, and each one makes an incredible impact. Women weavers in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana are earning a sustainable income as they craft each distinctive elephant grass basket using traditional techniques, patterns, and colors. Size, shape, and color vary due to handmade quality. Dimensions: 12"h x 16"dia

In order to comply with our quality standards, most leather on this basket has been removed.

Reshaping Your Bolgatanga Basket: Our artisan partners fold this basket in order to ship more efficiently. To remove creases and restore its shape, dampen basket with a spray bottle or other water source, or by submerging in water for 1 minute. Let it rest for 5 minutes to allow grass to absorb the moisture and become pliable. Bend and press the basket into shape - don't worry, it won't break. Allow it to air dry before use and enjoy your beautiful handwoven basket from Ghana!

Your purchase supports the indigenous livelihoods of Ghana's poorest residents, empowering them to earn a sustainable income through entrepreneurship and export of their crafts.

Since 2006, SERRV International has partnered with basket weavers in Ghana, providing a long-term trading partnership and interest-free advance payment for our orders. Through sales of their products, more than 940 basket makers from 17 different communities near the city of Bolgatanga receive a fair price for each handmade "Bolga" basket, as well as access to business skills training, financial services, raw materials, and marketing outlets. Funds from basket sales are also invested in the community, including construction of gathering shelters for production and straw storage "banks," which allows the organization to purchase and store natural elephant grass in bulk.

Basket weavers in Ghana specialize in basketry to produce their beautiful handcrafts.
